Specialty tours
DeBary Hall now offers tour topics to cater to your group's special interests.

  • Tea time: Gather a group of close friends or your social group and schedule a tea-tasting at DeBary Hall Historic Site. Tour the home, then sip tea and learn about high and low tea traditions. This is a great opportunity for your group to meet and socialize while learning about an interesting activity from the past.

Our education coordinator will work with youth groups to complete badge requirements or lesson plans. Just let us know!

Tea time tours are two hours long. They are available from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Please schedule one month in advance.

    Fee: $12 per person
  • Ecological tours: Did you know DeBary Hall Historic Site is in a bird sanctuary? Learn about the animals and plants around Debary Hall and how the landscape changed through time. Also, learn about the outside structures that made up the deBary property.

Youth groups can learn about the DeBary Hall property by completing a geo-cache activity. Geo-caching combines GPS coordinates with written clues. Have your group learn about the history and ecology of DeBary while learning to decipher clues.

  • Architecture tour: In 1971, DeBary Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its unique architectural qualities. This 1871 Italianate hunting lodge hosts an array of conveniences not available in many homes in the South during the Reconstruction and Victorian eras. Wine importer Frederick deBary initiated many of the home's amenities, and his son and great-granddaughter added to DeBary Hall's functional beauty.

The architectural tour reviews the unique amenities such as a working elevator, the call system, outdoor structures, historic plumbing, and the additions and renovations through DeBary Hall's 140-year history.

Youth groups will learn architectural terms and features through a DeBary Hall architectural bingo scavenger hunt throughout the house.

For classrooms with multi-media capabilities, we can explore DeBary Hall through a virtual tour on a CD rom. We also have several worksheets and will be happy to coordinate our visit with ongoing lesson plans or subjects.

Availability: In-school tours are 45 minutes long. They are available Tuesday through Friday. Please schedule two weeks in advance.

    Fee: $35 per class
