The SE Volusia Audubon Society will hold its annual
Ponce Inlet Christmas Bird Count (CBC) on January 2, 2010. The
nation-wide count has been held continuously since 1900.
The data gained from the last 40 years of CBC was
recently used by scientists to correlate the warming trend in the
U.S. with the tendancy of birds to winter farther north than
previously. Analysis of this and complementary data will be
important in determining the health and survivability of specific
species and their habitats.
If you would like to participate, meet us at the
Brannon Center at 7a.m. for assigment to teams. Binoculars and
field guides will be helpful. You do not have to be an expert
birder to participate. A fee of $5 is collected from adult
participants to help defray the cost of maintaining the national
CBC database.
